"Mark my words"

Right after I graduated from college, I was driving through the North Shore of Massachusetts with my dad, and he took me down this road called Monument Street. It is a gorgeous neighborhood filled with multi-multi-million dollar homes.

After we drove through, I said to my dad, "Mark my words, I am going to live on this street someday." It's a good thing I didn't get married right after college because clearly I still didn't have my priorities straight on the qualities that are important to find in a husband.

So, lately my husband (who is not a multi-multi millionaire in terms of money, but who is that in so many other ways) and I have been watching the show House Hunters. We love seeing the homes that people end up falling in love with, and it has gotten us dreaming about a single-family home for us someday. We are very content with our cozy 2 bedroom historic condo that required a lot of tender loving care from us, but I know that someday we will want something bigger. I have fallen in love with cape style homes with big front porches. There is something about the charm of this style that makes you feel right at home as soon as you see it. So, Dad, I want to release you from the burden of making sure I follow through on my original promise. Instead, I give you this: "Mark my words, within the next 20 years we will live in this type of home":

But if we don't, don't worry, I won't hold you accountable!

  2. You're so right! I forgot that they lived in a cape. If only Culpeper weren't so far away from everything :(

  3. We call those Acadian style in the south, and I agree, they are very welcoming and home-y. I won't mark any words, but I bet whatever house you wind up in over the next 20 years will be very welcoming and homey no matter the style.

  4. I like it. Just hope it has a finished basement-- so you can lock your kids and/or husband down there on rainy days. :-)
