For our final vacation of the summer, we took a 4 day trip to the Outer Banks with the Duncans. Although it was hot, we had a great time, and the kids loved being together every hour of the day! Here are some highlights:
The kids would've been happy chasing each other around the house all day.

One morning, Chris and I took the girls out for an adventure, and we started at Duck Donuts. You order your donuts, and they make them right in front of you. They loved watching the process.

Then we ate them out on the pier. They were so warm and yummy and messy!
Then we decided how fun it would be to take them to Jockey's Ridge. I have memories of walking on the sand dunes in high school, and I thought it would be no biggie to take 2 toddlers.

It was at about this point that I wondered what in the world were we thinking!

We had no sunscreen on and no water with us, and this is all we could see ahead.

So Chris took over and gave each of the girls a ride on his shoulders. What a good man!

The way back was less exciting. Evie was a trooper, but she was not happy about all the sand sticking to her sweaty body!

What they looked like afterwards. We got some cold water to drink and stood under an outdoor shower for awhile which made it all better!
And of course, we did go to the beach. As any family with toddlers knows, it is no small task to go to the beach with little ones. But it was beautiful, and we did have a great time. The kids grew fond of the waves, but they mostly liked filling up their buckets with water and walking them back to our towels, at which point the buckets were mostly empty from the journey up!
Doesn't Hannah look like Sandy in this picture?
