Laundry

One of my least favorite chores is laundry.  I had no plan for doing laundry except that whenever I would start to get stressed about the laundry hampers overflowing, I would wash a load.  But the task of laundry could never get out of my mind.  Whenever I would walk by the hamper I would think about it, and I wouldn't feel rested until it got done.  Well, through all my blog reading, I came upon a post of a lady who has laundry day once a week.  She designates one day to get all the laundry washed, folded, and put away, and the rest of the week she has free to do other things.  It was such an easy concept- why didn't I think of that?

So around this time last year I used Mondays as my laundry days.  I tend to have the most energy on Mondays, and that is usually our free day anyway, so it worked out perfectly.  As soon as I woke up I would put a load in the wash, and then I would cycle all our laundry throughout the day.  Evie got to a point where she was even helping me with it.  It worked out great, and I never felt stressed about the laundry piling up throughout the week because I knew that I had Monday to get it done.

Well, baby #2 came into the mix and that totally threw off this great plan that I had.  Adding one more tiny person into our family exponentially increased the amount of laundry that I did every week.  So through all the busyness of a newborn and the lack of structure that it creates, my laundry plan went out the window and I felt stressed about laundry again.  These last couple months, laundry has been piling up like crazy, and I have been known to keep a load in the dryer for almost a week!

Today, all that is changing, and I've started my plan again.  It's been a busy day, and I have folded more than my share of t-shirts and onesies (sidenote:  you really should check out this method of folding t-shirts.  It takes some practice but it has changed my world!), but I know it'll all pay off when the rest of this week I can look at the hampers and feel at peace.  Now if only I could figure out a way to do the dishes once a week...
