I will never peel apples again!

At least not for applesauce. On one of the blogs I read, the blogger made applesauce just by cutting the apples, cooking them, and pureeing in the food processor. Brilliant! Except I used my hand-blender given to us by our wonderful friends. Even easier! So now my applesauce has plenty of fiber in it, it's definitely darker in color because of the skin, and it's smooth as opposed to chunky, which I like. And now, my friends, we will have homemade applesauce ALL THE TIME as opposed to the 1 day a year when I decide to pull out the peeler and peel all 15 pounds of apples that I would pick. I'm so glad someone saved me from that agony!

The only tools I need.

I steamed the apples, but I suppose a steamer isn't necessary. It took about 45 minutes on medium heat. I wait until they are extra soft.

Dump some sugar in- or in this case, dump half of it on the ground as well. Can you tell who was helping me? Doesn't she have cute toes?

Blend it like crazy. It took me about 3 minutes until I absolutely could not tell that there had ever been peels on the apples.

What would I do without her help? :)

She's a good taste-tester, too.

Yup- she approves!

Now she asks for applesauce every day.

  1. Thanks for the great tip of using a hand blender to make the applesauce. I will have to ask for one. :) Last year, my mom and I cooked the apples with the skin on and blended it in the blender. This left noticeable chunks and skin which the adults enjoyed but the kids did not. After this year's apple picking, I peeled all the apples to insure that the kids would eat it. I felt bad wasting all that nutrition and oh my goodness, you are right about that being a once a year job.
