It's amazing how even though we only live 5 minutes from the city, we still rarely get into DC. We're still very suburban in our mindset, so our activities tend to be further out (and further from us). But we did take advantage of a few things this past week.
My brother convinced Chris to do a triathlon relay with him- and boy did it take some convincing. Chris was not excited about swimming in the Potomac but he decided to go for it. They also asked our friend Eric to join them with the bike part. They did a great job and ended up in 18th place out of 100 or so relay teams. Not bad at all!

| Getting ready for the swim |
| I had butterflies in my stomach at this point! |
| I'm sure he's in there somewhere |
| My little buddy for the morning (Evie was being taken care of by our friend which was a huge help!) |
| Love the planes flying overhead |
| Exhausted after the swim. My brother had about an hour to wait for his part of the relay after Chris got back. I'm so proud of these guys! |
| Last night, we picked up Chris from work and drove down to have a picnic supper by the monuments. I had yet to see the MLK monument. It was quite beautiful. |
| Evie didn't sit down the entire meal. She kept wanting to run with all the people jogging by. |
| I love that we live near such a beautiful city. |
| There were signs all around us that said, "Please respect your veterans- no wading in the fountain." So I showed Evie the signs right away and she had no trouble obeying them...UNTIL a businesswoman decided to take off her heels and walk into the water only 10 feet from us. Evie was clearly distraught by this and kept saying, "Mommy, she's going in the fountain!" Thanks, lady, for helping us teach our child the importance of following rules! |
| Evie LOVES the Washington Monument. She'll often see it in the distance as we're driving in the car and excitedly scream, "There's the Washy Monty!" As we were walking closer to it last night, she said, "Wow, Daddy, the Washy Monty is bigger than you." |
| We had such a fun night together, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect! |
Love this post! Glad to see you are taking advantage of the beautiful city! You'll miss it when you are gone, take it from me! Evie is so funny talking about the monument being bigger than Chris! I know sometimes in her mind he must seem to be the biggest thing there is, and most of the time she is right! ;)
